PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
Performs accounting and data entry activities to ensure that construction project activities are accurately and appropriately posted and processed according to the established department and company processes and procedures and in compliance with related general accounting practices. Verifies, audits and processes data related to job cost accounting, reporting, and administrative initiatives related to construction projects.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Under general supervision and direction, processes and posts financial data for construction project activities costs ensuring the appropriate project cost tracking information is timely and accurate.  
  • Maintains and updates Job Cost Reporting system database for integrated cost estimating, cost accounting and cost control. 
    • Reconciles data as needed to verify integrity and accuracy of data and to identify discrepancies and issues.  Resolves issues as appropriate with the pertinent vendors and managers, escalating the more complex problems.
    • Assists staff and other users of the system providing basic training and support as needed.
  • Assists with Cost Reporting activities in the dept.  Processes and posts Contractor Payment Requisitions and General Invoices.  Inputs data for expenditure reports and assists Project Managers (PMs) with understanding of the information provided.
  • Coordinates and produces reporting on regular and ad hoc basis including cost-to-date information, monthly financial reporting, cost reporting updates from management team, and may assist with development of trend analysis reports.
  • May assist PMs with the drafting of Purchase Orders and Change Orders (COs) in the document management system, the approval process to COs to subcontractor agreements, stopping payment of COs in the absence of proper approvals, and notifying the PMs regarding the aging of the COs.
  • Works with Estimating dept personnel to maintain processes to facilitate collaborative functioning.
  • Coordinates with Corporate Accounts Payables to assist with Payment Requisitions, Vendor Invoices or Direct Purchase Orders forwarded by Construction Services. Audits postings and reconciles with documentation system for accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

High School Diploma required; Associate's Degree or Bachelor's degree preferred

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • 2 - 4 years' related experience years construction accounting experience in a multi-project environment.
  • Ability to assist in the implementation job cost systems, processes and procedures
  • Conversant with the Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP).
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in construction management systems, word processing, spreadsheet and email applications
  • Proficient in Construction Job Cost Reporting and Analysis
  • Possess a team orientation to management
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills
