Nurses Advance Careers with Tuition Reimbursement
There are three new Fresenius Medical Care Registered Nurses in Spokane, WA, who all earned their Associate’s Degree at the same graduation ceremony with the help of the RN Tuition Assistance Program.
For Mimie, RN, North Point Dialysis Unit, the tuition benefit made the difference in her decision to expand her education. “I wanted to become a Registered Nurse, but I did not want any debt.”
According to the policy statement, “This program will pay for the cost of tuition, registration , laboratory fees, and required books up to a maximum of $2,625 per semester to a total maximum of $5,250 per calendar year, for participation in an accredited nursing degree program. Regular part-time employees will be eligible to participate on pro-rated basis.”
The other two new Registered Nurses are Christina and Amy, who both work at the Sacred Heart Medical Center’s Fresenius Medical Care Acute Dialysis Center. Independently, all three began taking courses at Spokane Community College. “We didn’t plan to do this together,” Mimie said. “We just all went to school at the same time.”
It took a great and sustained effort to work full-time at Fresenius Medical Care and be a successful full-time college student. “It took me four years, but when it is all said and done, I have no debt and I’m a registered nurse,” Mimie said.
As part of the Nursing tuition reimbursement program, participants must agree to work at least two years after earning their degree.
“It’s a really good deal,” said Mimie, adding that some others in her clinic have taken note of her advancement. “In my unit three employees have been inspired by my success to go back to school and they will be taking their prerequisites in the fall.”
