Shift: 40 hours/week 8:00am-4:30pm 5 days/week with rotational weekends


PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

Performs pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of low to medium complexity laboratory testing.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under close supervision, acquires job skills and learns company policies and procedures to complete routine tasks. 

  • Works on assignments that are routine in nature, requiring limited judgment. 

  • Contacts are primarily within the immediate work unit.  Contacts involve obtaining or providing information requiring little explanation or interpretation.

  • Normally receives detailed instructions on all work.

  • May refer to Medical Laboratory Scientists, Leads or Supervisors with day-to-day problems that may arise.

  • Escalates issues to supervisor for resolution, as deemed necessary.

  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Under general supervision by a technical supervisor, prepare and perform low to medium complexity testing, editing, and reporting of various clinical tests as directed under department SOPs and applicable State and private regulatory agencies.

  • Perform principal duties and responsibilities of all levels of Laboratory Assistants.

  • Prepare instrumentation for operation under general supervision.

  • Perform routine laboratory protocols; pipetting, measuring and pouring of samples.

  • Responsible for daily equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Comply with all laboratory safety protocols, including, but not limited to, use of personal protective equipment (PPE), proper laboratory techniques, disposal of bio-hazard, etc.

  • Document daily, weekly and monthly maintenance procedures as assigned.

  • Perform proficiency testing, inter-laboratory tests and competency assessment as required.

  • Monitor routinely reagents, chemicals, equipment parts and other necessary supplies for testing.

  • Assist with instrumentation monitoring and troubleshooting.

  • Other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs., and be able to sit/stand for extended periods of time in a laboratory environment.

  • Must be able to work with clinical and environmental samples, including, but not limited to blood, urine, etc.

  • Must be able to work with chemicals and/or reagents specific to laboratory testing.

  • Must be able to work in a medium to high noise level.

EDUCATION:

  • Associates of Science (AS) degree required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in applied, biological or laboratory sciences desired.

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 0 – 1 year’s related experience.

  • Demonstrated basic experience in clinical laboratory required.

  • Good verbal communication skills.

  • Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and manage time efficiently.

  • Prior experience with laboratory systems preferred.

  • PC literacy required.

  • Ability to follow precise directions in situation requiring speed, accuracy and efficiency.
