The Service Technical Writer at NxStage is responsible for authoring and updating technical service manuals for the field technicians. This position requires a talent for translating complex technical hardware concepts into user-friendly documents that meet the needs of the audience. Some mechanical aptitude or previous experience with maintaining or servicing hardware would be very beneficial in this position. The prospective candidate must be an excellent communicator who enjoys working in a highly dynamic writing team and is comfortable collaborating with the Service Engineering team. 


Creating, editing, and maintaining Service documentation

Collaborating with other writers to ensure continuous improvements in writing style, harmonization of terminology, and team initiatives

Participating in ongoing team workshops to create and improve writing strategies, layout practices

Investigating new and innovative ideas to create content

  • 5 years or less experience writing instructions, preferably in hardware
  • Experienced user of FrameMaker or inDesign
  • Familiarity with Solidworks a plus
  • Technical Writing certificate or completion of 4-year English/writing degree
  • Background in servicing or maintaining machines or lab equipment a plus
  • Enjoys interacting with complex machines
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to be a supporting member of a cross-functional team
  • Able to multitask in a highly innovative environment with changing priorities
  • Able to solicit feedback from reviewers and negotiate changes to achieve team consensus
  • Good time-management skills to produce large technical manuals
  • Engaged team player who supports ongoing internal team initiatives
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Sense of initiative; intellectual curiosity about technical products and systems
