Vascular Care

Fresenius Vascular Care (FVC) is dedicated to improving the care of vascular patients. By using FVC outpatient vascular centers, clinical staff can monitor patients' vascular care on a more routine basis to help improve the quality of care and reduce hospitalizations and missed dialysis treatment days.

Data suggests that coordinated vascular care achieves a functional arteriovenous fistula in approximately 14 weeks versus 24 weeks if the care is not coordinated. Today there are approximately 25,000 Fresenius Medical Services (FMS) patients dialyzing in locations where they could be using our Vascular Care facilities. However, fewer than 20 percent of these patients receive care at a Fresenius Vascular Care facility. FMCNA employees can help improve patient care by increasing the use of FVC. Our goal is to have FVC care for more than 45 percent of our patients by 2013.

We operate freestanding vascular centers with a dedication to providing dialysis patients with timely, reliable, safe, cost-efficient vascular access care. Our board certified Interventional Radiologists, Interventional Nephrologists and Vascular Surgeons are experts in vascular access and endovascular care, and many are pioneers in their fields. We are committed to improving the standard of care and quality of life of dialysis patients by reducing avoidable hospitalizations, reducing incidents of thrombosis, eliminating unnecessary temporary catheters, and decreasing morbidity. Our goal is that every ESRD patient entering one of our centers will leave with a functioning access.

Lessons learned while leading during the oil spill crisis

Learning from oil spillImagine working at FMCNA, helping to make a difference in the lives of dialysis patients, and then taking a leave of absence for 60 days to help make a difference in the lives of residents and business owners along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. Believe it or not, that's exactly what Ed Auzenbergs, Program Manager for Renal Therapies Group, did when the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig exploded and sank in early 2010.

Taking the reins

Donna Painter, RN, FMS Regional Vice President, is also the American Nurses Association (ANNA) President. As president, Painter helped support the long-term financial success of ANNA. She focused on recruiting nurses and strives to make ANNA the leading advocate for quality care for individuals, families and communities affected by kidney disease.

Adopt-a-family

The Michigan and Ohio billing groups teamed up this past holiday season to "adopt" three families who were struggling financially. Through a variety of fundraisers, the employees raised enough money to purchase two carloads of presents for the families' children.

Partnering with the community

The Ogden, Utah, manufacturing plant was recently recognized as the Business Partner of the Month by the Weber County School District. Ogden sponsors field trips, student instruction and internships for students, all as part of a work-based learning program.

Smiling for TV cameras

FMCNA patients and employees from clinics in Newark, Orange, Hoboken, Union and Jersey City, N.J., gathered at Rockefeller Plaza in New York City to promote CKD awareness on the Today show.

Growing success

A quarter-acre of undeveloped space on the Ogden plant's campus has been transformed into an employee garden, with 72 individual plots yielding everything from corn to cantaloupes. Employees have donated their garden veggies to a local retirement home and to the plant's cafeteria. The garden has contributed to Ogden's sense of community and a supportive work environment.

Walking to fight diabetes

A team of Spectra Laboratories employees joined the Step Out Walk to Fight Diabetes in San Jose. The walk is hosted annually by the American Diabetes Association. The team included Kathy Parmar, Ida Grabenstein, Jim Pearce, Connie Montgomery, Erryn McKenzie and June Tanaka.
